● Governor Newsom and LA Rises, in partnership with the California Fire Foundation, are responding to LA firestorm survivors’ needs with $2.2 million in funding to support a UCLA Health program that provides stronger mental health support and healing.
● The UCLA Health’s Sound Body Sound Mind program will support the deployment of proven mental health interventions in communities impacted by the Eaton and Palisades fires.
● Thousands of children are still carrying the trauma of these firestorms.
● 33 schools impacted by the fires will receive comprehensive support through the program over the next two full school years, supporting an estimated 30,000 students.
● Slavery may have ended in 1865, but systemic racism continues to make surviving and thriving as a Black American difficult.
● Black History Month provided an opportunity to talk to your kids about the importance of equity and teach them about the Black figures who have contributed to music, technology, literature, and every other field in our culture.
● Black history shouldn’t be confined to February, and then forgotten. These history lessons can be taught and expanded upon all year long.
● Children and adolescents are growing up in a whirlwind of digital overload, climate anxiety, economic uncertainty, and social instability.
● In response, psychologists are leading a paradigm shift toward a preventive, whole-child approach that can better support the mental well-being of today’s youth.
● The approach includes regular screening for mental health risks in places where families already go, such as the pediatrician’s office, early childhood care centers, and schools.
HCAI partners with California Community Colleges, California State Universities, and private nonprofit universities whose curricula meet all the requirements for a student to apply for a Wellness Coach certification upon graduation.
